A body is caught in vegitation in the Pyapon River near the village of Kan Sake a few hours south of Pyapon, Burma, in the aftermath of the cyclone Nargis. In Kan Sake and the surrounding farming villages, some 1,000 people list their lives out of a population of 5,000. The damage was so severe and the death toll so high that the villagers could not bury all the dead. Instead they pushed them back into the water. In other villages, they managed to bury the bodies for the first few days, but with decay setting in very fast they soon stopped.
